Description

Cornerstone 1952 Topps Baseball #311 Mickey Mantle rookie card! The brainchild of Sy Berger, the 1952 Topps Baseball edition resides with the 1909-11 T206 White Border series and 1933 Goudey edition as one of the "big three" sets in the hobby. Graded Good 2 by PSA with an (mc) qualifier. This debut rendition of "The Mick" is the indisputable king of the gum card edition and leads off the exceptionally tough high series. The crystal clear image of the young Hall of Famer is mildly disrupted by an 1-1/2" abrasion spanning Mantle's forehead. Flanking the boyish portrait are four moderately worn corners, slight chipping along the left edge and moderate soiling along the upper right corner. Despite those detractors, the overall presentation qualities of this "giant size" hero overwhelms any technical deficiencies. The upper edge of the reverse displays a portion of another card. Presents quite nicely for the technical grade and is a "perfect fit" for those seeking to surmount the iconic 1952 Topps Baseball set.
