To the best of our knowledge and research, only three Collins singles have come to auction in the past dozen years—with two of those examples having multiple signature removals. The third, a true single, sold in 2011 for over $22,500.
Such is the immense desirability of this Class of '39 Cooperstown inductee—who died in 1951—for those devoted collectors of HOFer signed balls. It is with great pride that we present a fourth offering and one which has not seen the light of day in decades, having been housed in a noted collection since the 1970s.
The medium-toned, lightly shellacked, well-used orb may possibly hail from actual game play. Collins' large, prominent black-fountain-pen signature rates "8" strength and is vastly superior to its pricy predecessor from 2011. There do not appear to be any overt signature removals, however JSA does note "unexplained abrasions." Full photo LOA from JSA.
