Rookie of the Year runner-up to Lou Whitaker in '78, Molitor had an even better sophomore campaign, batting .322 with a career-high 16 triples. He seemed a shoo-in for the '79 Mid-Summer Classic, and thus the powers that be at Balfour/MLB appear to have pre-made this ring for him in the event that he would participate. As it turned out, the Ignitor had to wait until the following year before officially joining the Mid-Summer Classic roster. (Incidentally, all A.S. rings carried player names throughout the 1970s and up through 1982, before switching to a generic, no-name format that continues to this day.) Manufactured by Balfour, the quasar-plus, size 10-3/4 ring features 5 CZs and a multifaceted orange stone, with shank logo designs for the Seattle Mariners and the All Star Game's 50th Anniversary. Near Mint condition. An accompanying 1987 purchase LOA reads, in part, "I purchased the ring a few years ago from another hobby collector/dealer at one of the George Washington Motor Lodge Shows just outside of Philadelphia."
