In the strike-shortened 1981 season, BoSox third baseman Carney Lansford captured the A.L. batting crown with a .336 average and finished 6th in MVP voting. It was Lansford's break-out campaign, and thus the powers that be at Balfour/MLB appear to have pre-made this ring for him in the event that he would participate in the '81 Mid-Summer Classic—which took place on August 9th, the day before regular play resumed after the 2-month hiatus. (Incidentally, all A.S. rings carried player names throughout the 1970s and up through 1982, before switching to a generic, no-name format that continues to this day.) Manufactured by Balfour, the celestrium, size 12 ring features 6 CZs and a blue sapphire stone, with logo designs on the shanks. Near Mint condition. A 1988 purchase LOA accompanies.
