Only Graded by SGC! Graded 60 EX 5 by SGC. Recognized as the first player of Native American ancestry in major league history, shockingly few diamond collectibles of Louis Sockalexis have surfaced for public sale. In fact, the offered circa 1912 real photo postcard is the only period artifact picturing the former player to have been appraised by the third-party service. The glossy sepia portrait depicts a weathered Sockalexis in remarkable clarity just a year before his passing in 1913. Exhibits a crystal clear image that is flanked by mild peripheral wear. Copyrighted 1912 by A.F. Orr of Old Town, Maine and reads “Louis Sockalexis Penobscot Tribe Old Towne, Maine”. The correspondence section of the creamy Azo reverse is absent of any period notations or evidence of postal use. Historically significant piece picturing the “Deerfoot of the Diamond” after his playing days. This item has a reserve. Estimated value ($3000-$5000).
