While his appetite for women, food and drink never waned in the slightest, Babe Ruth’s physical condition (naturally) did. Upwards of 255 pounds in 1925, Ruth endured a severe stomach ailment and, in the opinion of famed scribe Fred Lieb, “would never again be the player he was between 1919 and 1924.” Lieb was wrong. And so were any other doubters as Ruth hit the bulk of his home runs (358 of 714) after the age of 32. This OAL Harridge baseball hails from Ruth’s “restoration” and is autographed by the iconic slugger. The medium-toned orb has scattered surface abrasions (suggesting signature removals) and is signed by Ruth in blue ink on a side panel. The scripting projects (“6-7”) potency and is covered by a period strip of transparent tape. The top of the upper-case “R” has been enhanced in an unknown hand. Full JSA.
