Pacing the Majors with 208 home runs and a .285 team batting average, the 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers won a franchise-record 105 games before bowing (for the fifth time in as many attempts) to the Yankees in the Fall Classic. This ball is signed by (28) members of that Flatbush-based roster. The creamy ONL Giles orb has instances of very mild toning, yet presents wonderfully. Blue ballpoint signatures average (“6-7”) potency with: Sweet Spot: Gilliam and Dressen (manager); North Panel: Meyer, Campanella, Shuba, Loes, Antonello, Furillo and J. Robinson; South Panel: Wade, Pitler (coach), Roe, Thompson, D. Williams, Cox, Zimmer and Palica; West Panel: Reese, Walker, Milliken, Herman (coach), Belardi and Hodges; East Panel: Podres, Labine, Snider, Morgan and Erskine. Full photo LOA from JSA.
Note: the presence of Don Zimmer’s signatures suggests that the ball was signed during spring training, as Zimmer was signed by the Dodgers in 1949 but did not appear for the parent club until 1954.
