Description

A star running back in the Big 10, AAFC, and NFL, "Buddy" Young joined the Baltimore Colts front office after hanging up his cleats in 1955. A decade later, he joined the NFL league office, to become the first African-American to land a job as an executive for a major sports league.

Each member of the 1959 World Championship winning Baltimore organization was presented with a commemorative tea set, this being the example gifted to Young. This 4-piece set was crafted in Sterling silver, by famous maker Gorham, who has hallmarked all 4 pieces. Weighing in at a combined 3.68 pounds, this elegant set makes a stately appearance, with an elegant design, gleaming surfaces and light to moderate wear. Based on current market value, the silver content is well over a thousand dollars. However, as each piece is engraved with the Baltimore Colts logo, and the legend "1959 World Champions", the value to collectors is considerably higher. The tray is also engraved with the name "Buddy Young", and an LOA signed by Young's wife Geraldine accompanies.
